Lost at the sea

Amidst the deep blue night of shells and sapphires,
on a rock riding high, she rested
yesterday- today, tomorrow, for as long as I evoke.
I hear a tale many sided as a
different lot passes by but I believe in the one
which sculpts that she’s waiting for him-
her lost husband.

Time ago, she met the sea to bid her love goodbyes
to some land of copper and wealth when
the crystalline water upturned fate and
betrayed the smooth sweet promise;
Impatient, hungry, ruthless waves devoured
the young husband, contended to the slavery
of the pretty young wife.

Nights been nimble on her as she sings a ballad tender,
with a lantern in hand, enumerating,
beseeching the sailors  on their way
of same questions over and over, forever;
An amusement to some, a stream of abuse
to others. To me she’s a vivid hope, an intense
pearl but pitiful.

The green eyes in a haste to look as far as possible,
glow, as the water adorns
the rose on her sullen cheeks; the gold hair
weaving the time, chill the air to her dismal
and when it rains, she yearns to melt
to her love, to the lost, slipping
on the rock, folding, unfolding.

By the hole in my old wall, I listen to the dream faced
beauty, commiserating with the heavy sorrow;
She laid, for as long as I recall, in dark,
awaiting the young husband,
unmindful of years, decades, centuries,
unmindful of storms, waves, curses.
To the young promise, passing in eternity.

Beautiful narrative. This reminds me of a song by Bhupen Hazarika where a young fisherman goes to a rough see and is swallowed by it and his wife asks the waves to speak up, beseeches them to tell her where is her husband.

'O leher jap ja muyi!'

Alas, there are no answers.

Beautiful.
