Poised Dead

It was my home, long before I died
and long after I died, so now
when I see the sparrows chirping,
I feel homely

I peep out to contain the mahogany
and walk the green skin of the earth
unafraid

I carve my home with the untiring
fingers, and the ornamental trees
exulting with me

I like talking about the unending
waters of the pacific and the
Madagascar with the graves

My people, as I say, these graves
are free silver hearts, none the
underground fighter

We walk our homes poised
away from the poker facet, so now
when I see that I am long dead,
I feel gratitude.

The double meaning of underground and the diasporic connection are super here.
